LECTOR Lectors proclaim the Word of God to the congregation at each Mass. They are the vessels through which the Word is brought to life. HOSPITALIZED + HOMEBOUND MINISTRY In addition to the training that Extraordinary Ministers at Mass receive these volunteers are trained with a focus on ministering to the sick outside of Church. Each minister receives a pyx and a prayer book for their use in performing this ministry. These ministers serve the homebound of our parish in their private homes and at Hale Ho'ola Hamakua. FUNERAL / BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY Members of this ministry help the family of a deceased individual through a very difficult time. They establish the initial connection with the family and offer guidance with the various decisions that necessary for their family's funeral service. MARRIAGE + FAMILY Members of this ministry plan family social events like our pot luck Bingo nights. They organize workshops to enrich all aspects of marriage and family life for our parish. Members have to worked within the West Hawaii Vicariate to share the cost of providing workshop opportunities on these subjects. HOLY GHOST FEAST This is a Portuguese tradition that has been handed down through the generations. This is our annual major fundraising celebration. A small procession precedes the Mass in honor of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost Queen represents Saint Elizabeth aka: QueenIsabella of Portugal and is crowned during the Mass. The Mass is followed by entertainment, an auction and a raffle. You will find various food booths, baked goods, games, and other vendors. The planning and preparations begin several months in advance. Numerous volunteers are necessary to ensure the success of this traditional parish liturgical celebration. BUILDING REPAIR + MAINTENANCE This ministry helps us in maintaining the beauty and integrity of our almost century-old church building and other buildings of the parish. OFFICE ASSISTANTS MINISTRY We only have one paid part-time position. Therefore, the office is only manned from 8:00 am-1:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. We rely on volunteers to assist with answering the phone and taking messages, folding the bulletins, preparing mailings and greeting visitors in order to run the office smoothly. TECH MINISTRY Members gather and manage information, photos and videos for our parish website. They work closely with the office staff to ensure that the weekly bulletin is available. BIBLE SHARING This is a one-hour bible sharing on Sundays after the 9:00am Mass. This class is open to everyone and is an opportunity for parents of religious education students to learn while you wait for your child.
